October, 2021 has gone by so swiftly! Just a reminder that it’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month. When my grandmother faced the disease in the 1930s in a remote village in Hungary, there were no really effective treatments for her. After her surgery in a larger city, she stayed to recuperate for another two years. She never returned to her home.
Today the advances in breast cancer treatment have been extraordinary! It is possible to survive and live a long life after diagnosis. Yet, one in eight women face it each year and there are over 40,000 deaths each year. I wear my breast cancer awareness pin, which I received over twenty years ago, every day in October to remind me of the work still needed to accomplish and friends and loved ones who have been affected by it. For more information, check it out here.
I mention my grandmother in my new book, Sidonia’s Seam Binding, still in the works, and at this point, hopefully out next year!
